Competitive: People who tend towards a competitive style take a firm stand, and know what they want.so I think in the first case the employee needs to be patient and be always ready to take criticism.
Avoiding:in the second issue I suggest needs to delegate part of his work to reduce the work overloads.

I agree with you concerning the solution for the first scenario, however with the second scenario I believe that both parties most understand the reasoning for the one failure to complete the task, which would ensure communication between both parties.
